Probably the biggest surprise this year was El Toro winning for  best Wooden Coaster. The Voyage at Holiday World has won it every year since 2006. Having ridden El Toro this year I can honestly say that it deserves that spot.

Cedar Point and Schlitterbahn won for Best Amusement Park and Water Park, each for the 15th year in a row. I’ve never been to Schlitterbahn but all the reviewers say it’s excellent. Cedar Point is my personal favorite amusement park so I agree with its placement.

I was expecting Leviathan to win Best New Ride of 2012. Wild Eagle ended up winning though. Followed by Radiator Springs Racers at Disney’s California Adventure. Leviathan was third. Dollywood also won the most Golden Tickets with five awards.

2012 was a good year for the Golden Tickets, I find it great that both my favorite wooden coaster and favorite steel coaster won an award. You can visit for more information.

EL TORO WON! EL TORO WON! Finally! After being in the shadow of the voyage for 6 years, El Toro finally won! The best thing about this though was that on the day of the awards I was attending riding of the bulls- An ACE (American Coaster Enthusiasts) event in which there is exclusive ride time on el toro for 2 hours after the park closes in complete darkness. It was wild being on El Toro in complete darkness AND in pouring rain. I got 17 rides on it in total! The ride operator informed us that El Toro finally won best wooden coaster and everyone was psyched! Also, I am VERY surprised that Wild Eagle won best new ride. I thought Leviathan would have won as well. And X-Flight isn’t even in the top 5??!! It looks WAY better than Wild Eagle. I will ride Wild Eagle next year when I got to Dollywood, but X-flight will have to wait a while. Anyway, I am so happy that El Toro and Millennium Force are top wood and steel coaster! It was destined to happen! My favorite steel (along with Nitro) and favorite wood coaster are both ranked number 1! (Same as you)

    • “I am VERY surprised that Wild Eagle won best new ride. I thought Leviathan would have won as well.” Tell me about it, most of the enthusiast community is outraged! And where’s Transformers in all of this? With all of the hype that’s gotten, you would think that it would at least be in the race for Best New Ride?

    • Man, EVERYONE is upset with Wild Eagle winning. I’m sure it’s a great ride but beating out Leviathan, X-flight, and Skyrush ( I’ve heard it’s an amazing ride with the new restraints.)Radiator Springs Racers looks like a great ride and all but I don’t think it beats out a Giga coaster. Everyone always says that the awards are biased and this year really proves it! The award ceremony was held at Dollywood. I’m slightly jealous of you Matt 🙂 I’d give almost anything for ERT on El Toro (Did you get any rides in the back seat?) Thanks for commenting! 🙂
