Silver Dollar City’s 2013 Coaster: Outlaw Run

August 9, 2012

Silver Dollar City announced their new for 2013 coaster today. Outlaw Run will quite possibly be the most insane wooden coaster in the world. It will have the world’s steepest wooden drop at 81 degrees, that drop will also be the second largest for any non-steel coaster at 162 feet. Outlaw Run will be the world’s second fastest woody at 68 mph.

Despite all these statistics, the thing that people are talking about are the inversions. The first and only inversions on a wooden coaster since Son of Beast took out its loop in 2007. At the very end of the ride there will be a double barrel roll. There is also an element at the beginning of the ride that the park calls an outside banked turn. It is unclear if this is actually considered an inversion or not.

Thanks to News Leader for the picture!

The ride was manufactured by Rocky Mountain Coasters, the same company that built the acclaimed New Texas Giant at Six Flags over Texas. According to Silver Dollar City 2013, Outlaw Run will have nine moments of airtime throughout its 2,937 foot long layout. Here is a promotional video:

So far the ride looks amazing, it will certainly be one of the best coasters opening next year.

Wow this looks awesome! Steepest drop, second largest drop and second fastest woodie. Plus two barrel roll inversions- never done before on a wooden coaster! This looks like an awesome and insane ride. I wonder how it would feel doing a barrel roll on a wood coaster though. Would it be rough? Shaky? I am not sure but I want to find out. This ride looks awesome!

    • I doubt it will be shaky enough to be painful. They probably are being very precise with it so that they won’t end up with another Son of Beast. Thanks for commenting! 🙂
