Cedar Point’s 2013 Coaster
Cedar Point has not opened a new coaster since Maverick in 2007. Most enthusiasts have been wondering for some time on what their next coaster would be. It looks like they may finally be getting their wish in 2013.
The Sandusky Register reports that Cedar Point’s CEO, Matt Ouimet, wrote a memo to the park’s board of directors saying that they would be building a Bolliger and Mabillard Wing Rider. The ride will cost $25 million and have the tallest hill and the longest track of any Wing Rider yet.
It will be placed near the entrance to the park where Disaster Transport and the Space Spiral observation tower are today. These two rides will be taken out. The park announced earlier this year that they would be closing Wildcat, another coaster of theirs. This makes two closed coasters in two years. The park’s coaster count has slipped below Six Flags Magic Mountain’s count, Cedar Point with 16 and SFMM with 17.
I didn’t enjoy Disaster Transport that much, it was pretty rough, but Space Spiral is one of my favorite observation towers. The view from the top is excellent. I wish they had been able to save this ride but I would still prefer the coaster. Hopefully the park will place it in another section of the park (maybe on the old Wildcat site.)
The reviews of other B&M Wing Riders have been excellent so, hopefully this will be good too.
The new coaster sounds like it will be fun!
