Topper Track Rumors

April 26, 2012

I have posted about Rocky Mountain Coasters’ Iron Horse coasters before but since then the idea has grown. According to Screamscape there are quite a few parks on the waiting list for their Iron Horse. It’s really not a big surprise after the rave reviews that The New Texas Giant received when it opened last year.

Silver Dollar City has already started construction on their 2013 coaster, we just aren’t positive that it is an Iron Horse. Unlike most of these coasters, this one is not a renovation of an already existing coaster, it is a brand new ride. They are in the process of building the supports for the lift hill. Screamscape reports that the basic layout for this coaster should be an out and back design with some overbanked turns and twister sections thrown in. There are also rumors that this coaster will have Rocky Mountain’s brand new type of train. Midwest Info Guide has some construction pictures.

The Rattler at Six Flags Fiesta Texas is rumored to be receiving a renovation similar to The Texas Giant. This should be very nice because I can say from experience that The Rattler is not a very smooth ride. Hopefully they can also fix the bad pacing and eliminate the triple helix.

Gwazi at Busch Gardens Tampa might be reciving topper track, this rumor was just announced so we will have to wait and see if it is true or false. It would be interesting thought since Gwazi is a dueling coaster.

Silverwood is also rumored to be getting a new Iron Horse in the next couple of years. They have four wooden coasters already so it could be a renovation or possibly even a new coaster.

Dollywood just opened a major coaster this year in Wild Eagle so I wouldn’t expect to see another large coaster for a couple of years. Screamscape reports that an Iron Horse might be that next large coaster. We don’t know if it is a completely new coaster or a renovation of Thunderhead. My guess would be the first option because, from what I’ve heard, Thunderhead is still a pretty good coaster. Again we’ll just have to wait and see.

Wow, if all of these rumors are true then we are in for a good next couple of years.

I really want to go on New Texas Giant. I heard of insane amounts of airtime and very thrilling 90+ degree turns. These guys (Rocky Mountain) know what they are doing and took a rough old woodie and turned it into the best new ride of 2011 and 6th best steel coaster according to amusement today. They need to renovate son of beast most importantly, and maybe wildcat at hershey park.

    • Its pretty crazy, the worst thing that I’ve heard about The New Texas Giant is that there is so much airtime that there is never really a highlight. I hope they do renovate Son of Beast, when I went to King’s Island a few years ago it was just sitting there in the back of the park. It was kind of sad.
