The Longest Coasters

April 21, 2012

Most roller coasters are about 3000 feet long. The longest ones can be almost three times that length. Here are the 10 longest coasters in the world.

10. Gao at Mitsui Greenland – 5,692

Gao is a dinosaur themed coaster. It is pretty long but doesn’t appear to be that exiting.

9. Desperado at Buffalo Bill’s Resort & Casino – 5,843

When it opened in 1994 it was the tallest coaster in the world. The Ride starts in the casino and the lift hill exits through the casino roof. After this the ride travels around the hotel in a series of hills.

8. California Screamin’ at Disney’s California Adventure – 6,072

California’s longest coaster, California Screamin’ is also the longest, currently operating coaster in the world to go upside down (Son of Beast was longer but it is closed now). The ride uses LIMs to launch you multiple times throughout the rides layout. The ride’s structure was made to look like older wooden coasters.

7. Voyage at Holiday World – 6,442

The Voyage considered by many to be the best wooden coaster in the world. The ride has the most airtime and the most tunnels of any coaster too. It is one of the few coasters loved by practically every enthusiast.

6. Formula Rossa at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi – 6,561

Formula Rossa is the world’s fastest coaster at 150 mph. Riders must wear goggles to protect their eyes from the dust.

5. Millennium Force at Cedar Point – 6,595

Millennium Force was the tallest and fastest coaster in the world when it opened in 2000. It was also the first to cross the 300 foot height barrier. It is considered by many enthusiasts to be the best steel coaster in the world.

4. Fujiama at Fuji-Q Highlands – 6,708

Fujiama was the world’s tallest coaster when it opened in 1996. It takes riders around turns and hills in its very long layout.

3. The Beast at King’s Island – 7,359

Even after more than 30 years The Beast still holds its claim to fame. It is the world’s longest wooden roller coaster. There are four tunnels and two lift hills on its journey through the woods of King’s Island.

2. The Ultimate at Lightwater Valley – 7,442

The Ultimate is Europe’s longest coaster. It contains two lift hills and a race through the woods.

1. Steel Dragon 200 – 8,133

Millennium is the longest I’ve been on. By the way, the ultimate has to be one of the strangest coasters I’ve ever seen. It seems to have nothing else around it, like it is in the middle of no where. And it races through the woods for 7 minutes! I think the park had to buy a whole forest for just that coaster! It is strange how it never comes off the ground except for the lift hills! It follows the natural terrain. And when it seems to be completely out of energy, there’s another lift! And then when it is finally over, it has to get lifted back into the station by another lift hill! They run its energy out all the way, no brakes needed. None of these things are meant to sound bad, I really want to ride this! It looks like a very fun coaster! If I go to Europe (which I probrably will after college or something), this will probrably be a stop!

Oh and I just looked up Gao- wow! It is huge! That drop (after the turning first drop) has to be one of the longest (in time) drops ever! 10 seconds! While the tallest coaster in the world’s drop is only about 5 seconds or less long!

    • The longest coaster I’ve been on is The Beast. The Ultimate is at a small park that doesn’t really have much else other than family coasters. I didn’t know that there were no brakes used though, that’s insane (in a good way)! Gao is pretty interesting, I didn’t know the time of the drop. Thanks for reading! šŸ™‚
