Top 5 New Coasters For 2011

August 6, 2011

This is a list of my favorite new coasters opening in 2011. I haven’t been on any of them so this list is just what I think looks like the best.

5. Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags Over Georgia

Dare Devil Dive is a Euro-Fighter so it has a Straight up lift hill and past vertical drop. You fly through three inversions including a Dive Loop, an Immelmann, and a heartline roll. It is Six Flags Over Georgia’s first coaster since Goliath in 2006. It is also their only coaster to go straight up and straight down, other than Deja-Vu which was removed in 2007.

4. Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas

Texas Giant is actually an old coaster that was very rough, Six Flags decided that since people didn’t really like the old ride that much that they would give it steel track but keep the wooden supports. What they have now is a crazy looking coaster with lots of highly banked turns and airtime.

Texas Giant Returns to the Station

3. Raptor at Gardaland

Raptor is a new type of coaster for Bolliger and Mabillard. The seats are off to the sides like a 4th Dimension coaster, but they don’t flip. The ride incorporates lots of theming such as split trees and fallen towers. Raptor has three inversions, a Zero-G-Roll, a Corkscrew, and a Heartline Roll.

1. (tie) Takabisha at Fuji-Q-Highland

Takabisha is the largest Euro-Fighter ever. A launch, and vertical lift are the two methods used to get you moving. It has 7 Inversions including the new Banana Roll (couldn’t they have come up with a better name?) and a 121 degree drop which counts as an inversion. There is even a Heartline Roll in the dark before the launch. I want one in the US!!!!

1. (tie) Cheetah Hunt at Busch Gardens Tampa

Cheetah Hunt is an Intamin Blitz coaster, that means that it has multiple launches and at least one inversion. Cheetah hunt is a very picturesque coaster, the trains are painted to look like cheetahs. The ride has several trenches, and even a canyon, that it dives through. Plus there is a new exhibit to go with the ride, called Cheetah Run, the cheetahs will race and show spectators how fast they can actually go.

Honorable Mention: Green Lantern: First Flight at Six Flags Magic Mountain

Thanks to The Coaster Critic for the picture of Texas Giant.
