Gipfelstürmer (Gerstlauer Family Shuttle Coaster)

July 18, 2011

Gerstlauer has designed a family shuttle coaster for Freizeitpark Ruhpolding in Germany.

I don’t normally write articles on family coasters but Gipfelstürmer is an exception. The reason is because it is the only family coaster that I can think of that goes backwards. For those who don’t know, a shuttle coaster’s track isn’t a complete circuit, they travel to one end of the track and back.

Gipfelstürmer gets pulled out of the station backwards, up an incline, and is dropped forwards through the station and around a few turns. Then it is pulled up another hill, forwards this time, and dropped backwards through the entire thing again.

What do you think? Please comment. Thanks for reading. 🙂
