Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

May 3, 2011

Ok, so its not a roller coaster, Tower of Terror is a heavily themed drop/dark ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando. It is themed to the Twilight Zone TV series.

The story goes like this: The tower was Hollywood’s finest hotel, but one stormy night it was struck by lightning. The elevators flew up to the thirteenth floor (which happens to be an entrance to the twilight zone) and all of the guests inside disappeared. We must venture into a service elevator to learn more about what happened that night…

The ride starts in the hotels boiler room where we can decide to bail out now or to get into the elevators and see what happens (take the elevator). We rise up a few floors before a door opens and we see a hallway. Guests who disappeared years ago appear for a moment before vanishing. Suddenly the walls become invisible and stars take their place, everything has changed. The mirror at the end of the hallway shifts shapes and then explodes. The doors close and we rise up to the thirteenth floor. The whole elevator car rolls forward through a hallway with holograms and strange objects floating around. We stop in a new elevator shaft and we know that we are about to drop. The first one is actually faster than gravity because there are huge motors that pull the car down. We shoot back up the shaft, at the top windows open and we get a view of the park, we drop again. Over and over, sometimes stopping halfway down before shooting back up (its different every time). Finally we stop dropping and are let out into the gift shop.

Tower of Terror was awesome (although it is hard to describe because it is mostly theming), The special effects look real. I am giving it a 10 out of 10.

Have you been on Tower of Terror? What do you think? Please comment. Thanks for reading. 🙂
