In Greek myths Kraken was a sea monster that would terrorize oceanfront cities and ports. At the end of the legend, Kraken got turned to stone by Medusa’s severed head. The owners of Sea World Orlando decided that they would make a coaster that would live up to the legend.
The ride is situated next to a lake in the back of the park, This is where most of the action takes place. The entrance is next to a statue of this beast, inside of some ruins. Kraken ascends the lift hill rapidly, at the top we can see around part of Orlando (although downtown is behind us). We drop down next to the lake and into a Loop, this is very big and has some good airtime on top. We navigate a dive loop where we twist upside down again. Then into the Zero-G-Roll, as the name implies this has some airtime. Next is the Cobra Roll, this is an insane maneuver that, when viewed from the side, looks like a cobra about to strike. We surge into a mid-coarse brake run and dive into a trench where another loop is hidden. Up and over a hill, into a tunnel that goes around a small lake and another final inversion: a corkscrew. We take another turn onto the final brakes. Sea World didn’t stop the experience there however, we walk through a small cave where there are small Kraken eggs (they even have little Krakens in them).
Kraken was very good but not entirely amazing. I am giving it an 8 out of 10.
Have you been on the Kraken? What do you think? Please comment. Thanks for reading. 🙂
