Full Throttle Speeding into Six Flags Magic Mountain in 2013

August 31, 2012

Yesterday Six Flags announced all of their new rides and shows for 2013. Full Throttle was one of the two major coasters that were unveiled (read about Six Flags Fiesta Texas’ Iron Rattler.) Six Flags Magic Mountain is already known as having an incredible lineup of coasters so I was exited to see what the park had up its sleeve. Full Throttle brings Magic Mountain’s coaster count up to 18, a record-breaking number.

There were rumors that a multi-launch coaster was in store for Magic Mountain. Anticipation grew until yesterday when the ride was announced. Initial reports said it would include the world’s tallest vertical loop and that it would be a terrain coaster.

The ride will start with a launch into the world’s tallest vertical loop. After this the track will twist through a few turns. The next inversion is a dive loop. Does anyone else think this element actually looks very similar to Storm Runner’s Flying Snake Dive? After the dive loop the coaster will come to a stop inside a tunnel.

Full Throttle will then launch riders backwards back into the dive loop. However, the trains will not have enough speed to make it back through the inversion and will fall back into the tunnel. There will be a third launch here that blasts at 70 mph. The track will turn to the left and then rise as the coaster will travel on the outside of the record-breaking loop. If the ride is launched fast enough there should be excellent airtime here.

I honestly am a little disappointed with Full Throttle, the rumors said that it would be a long ride but it turned out rather short. I was a little disappointed with Superman: Ultimate Flight at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom when it was announced last year but it is turning out to be a great ride. Hopefully this will be the case with Full Throttle.

I was a bit disappointed as well because I heard rumors too of it having a record setting length and it does look very short. I was hoping for something like Maverick or Cheetah hunt- a long and exciting launch coaster with many launches and surprises. This is just basically a loop, dive loop, and airtime hill if you list the track elements. But I have to say the stop and backwards/forward launch in the tunnel seems cool. Riding on the outside of the record breaking loop sounds good as well.

    • Premier Rides has surprised me in the past. I wasn’t expecting Sky Rocket or Superman: Ultimate Flight to be that good either but I’ve read very positive reviews about both rides. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if Full Throttle is the same way. Thanks for commenting! 🙂
